Presentation copy with a warm inscription by Chéri Charles on behalf of husband and wife: "A Monsieur et Madam / Harold T. Boucher / In memory of their trip to / France that brought them in / contact with the [?] our / heart / Chérie et Robert Charles". Additionally signed by J. Hilary Barth. 8vo: 9 x 6-1/4", [64]pp; [unpaginated; spiral binding; white wrappers printed in red and dark blue. Printed at The Pinchpenny Press. Illus. Text pages age-toned with some touches of soiling to upper margins. Overall light use to wrappers. Very good. With a foreword by Herb Caen who remarks "San Francisco, like Paris, is romantic about food", an observation perhaps even more apt fifty years hence. Twenty-six recipes, from A ("Anges a Cheval") to Z ("Fries Casanova"), with short anecdotal pieces apposite to each. Whether a sophisticated grilled cheese sandwich ("Auvergne Rarebits" with blue cheese) or lobster with whiskey, the recipes are appealing and the happy memories delivered with them engaging. OCLC cites five institutional holdings.

Dora Hunt may have compiled this attractive sample book with its array of sophisticated sewing techniques for a class on advanced sewing. The presentation is simple, but very taking.

8vo: 9-1/4 x 6-6/8", 40pp; beige wrappers (stapled) with floral design, title and corporate author printed in reddish-purple. Illustrated with color and black and white photographs throughout. Touch of wear to spine ends, but fine. The introduction emphasizes the creativity and individuality which embroidery can offer to vary the standardization of mass production: "A few embroidered cushions, some mats, a table runner, transform your home by creating an intimate, personal atmosphere. A monogram on your blouse, a gay motif embroidered on a child's pinafore, a detail added to a dress, lend a personal touch to these garments..." The booklet offers "Practical advice to Beginners" and then reviews the "Couching stitch", "Darning stitch", "Stroke stitch", etc. as well as "Flat embroidery", "Broderie anglaise" and "Monograms", among other subjects. "Machine Embroidery" is one of a series of booklets issued by Thiriez & Cartier-Bresson on tatting, knitting, Irish lace, etc. A charming example.
